End of day 1
Well I made it through fine. I’m ahead of where I expected to be actually, considering the amount of time I actually worked. The whole Sat-Sun-Mon thing threw me for a loop. I didn’t know to keep working today or to give it up. So I decided to split the difference. I only worked half as long today as I’d planned (most of which was done by the time I realized my error). I’ll work the other half Monday. That should be cool.
Anyway, I took the aforementioned outdoor break this afternoon with a hard copy. I think the editing may have to be what I sacrifice in order to do the actual writing. And looking at the first draft of what I did today, I’m wondering how good these novels can possibly be. I mean, I’m no slouch at first drafts but just the typos and stuff. Ack.
As I worked half the day, Hawk took me out to dinner. Then we went to Borders (bad idea) and didn’t get home until 10:30. I’m hoping he’ll get wrapped up in college football tomorrow b/c I’ll be using the computer. I also got a copy of Never Mind The Bollocks from the “super saver” bin for $8. Should come in handy for writing tomorrow. Today’s mood music was The Vines and Nirvana. Period stuff, the latter.
My ideas so far include these: I have a lack of dialogue. Yes. I know. Me. The Dialogue Queen. I think my other characters are a little flat and I’m thinking it’s b/c they don’t have much to say. I’ll need to work on that. I also worked ahead on a couple individual scenes. When I’d get stuck, that’s what I’d do. There are still two good, big scenes I have in mind and I may write them tomorrow.
I also have hiccups from laughing at an e-mail. All I can say is it involved a thong, a small dog and spinach dip. Now that’s an idea for a novel.
