Highlands Fest 2005

Welcome to the photoblog essay on the Highland Festival in Edinboro this Saturday. This is a pair of “heilan coos,” one that’s wee and one that’s not so wee. Baby Z loved the big one b/c it liked to moo. I liked the pischer.

This is a competition group from the Laurel Highlands region of PA.

Baby Z loved listening to the bagpipes. Hawk wore the most appropriate hat of anyone in attendence and no one knew it but us

This group was almost exclusively kids playing Celtic fiddle. They were really good

Caber!

Bagpipe bands and men in kilts. Life is sweet

This dude was the “street entertainment” for the fest. The entertainment was thus: rugby game, highland dance competition, drum and pipe band competition, highland athletics. I would have liked to see weaving or other arts demonstrations but instead there was this guy hammering a nail into his nose. I believe he’s a lifetime SCA member. If he’s not, someone needs to make him one.

This is an “approach shot” of the fest. About a third of these are clan tents, where clans gather and you can get info on the clans. The rest are vendors, mostly jewelry and knick knacks. I got a huge vial of incense (druid something, an oak/pine blend) and three soy candles. I also got my yearly piece of Campbell Pottery down at the factory today.

Z really looks like Hawk in that picture! I think it’s her expression.

She does. She has his features (eyes, mouth, etc.) and my bone structure.

I really love Highland Games. And RUGBY is ALWAYS a good thing. :)
Ours is in June, followed closely by the Ren Faire. I love summer!

We don’t get a Ren Faire. The closest is in Ohio. I have never been to one but I’ve always wanted to go. I have a wench dress (and Hawk has a monk’s robe) so I could blend right in.
