Contains spoilers throughout so if you don’t want to read them, just skip the whole entry. I’m hoping to write up a little something later tonight or tomorrow.
Jam says:
How’re things? I gather you saw the Big RotS the other night?
Sallie says:
I saw RotS yesterday afternoon. The twin babies got to me
Jam says:
Awwwwww!
Sallie says:
have you seen it?
Jam says:
Nope. (Kid) has, though.
Jam says:
Went with a friend.
Sallie says:
it’s very emotional
Jam says:
All I heard was “It ties up everything!”
Sallie says:
I can see why it’s pg-13 — just from an emotional standpoint, not gore
Jam says:
Was it you saying it’d have been R if it had been guns and swords instead of self-cauterizing weapons?
Sallie says:
b/c this character who you’ve kind of come to at least like if not love is lying on the edge of a pool of lava with only one arm and a torso and on fire and geez
Sallie says:
well it’s not the blood spurting type gore that gets a pg-13 anymore. Let me think about what the violence was…
Jam says:
This Darthie-boy?
Jam says:
I was trying to recall who told me it would’ve been worse had they had all the blood too….
Sallie says:
the shot of Anakin losing his limbs was so fast that I didn’t see it happen, if it was shown. One minute he’s leaping, the next he’s on the ground and it was like “oh shit!”
Sallie says:
yes, Darth/Anakin
Sallie says:
he Force-choked his wife; although he didn’t lay a hand on her, that’s violent nonetheless
Sallie says:
most of the deaths (and there were a lot) were implied, not shown
Jam says:
Ah, the Force-choking started early, then…
Jam says:
Did he kill her? (I don’t care about spoilers much)
Sallie says:
what I thought warranted the rating was how emtionally disturbing the aftermath and consequence was
Sallie says:
he didn’t but the Emporer told him he did
Jam says:
Ah
Jam says:
Well, we’ll see it eventually
Sallie says:
according to the medical droid she was “medically fine but has lost the will to live”
Sallie says:
very Shakspearean that was
Jam says:
Guess she loved him more than he loved her, eh?
Sallie says:
it reminded me thematically of Othello, with the “Friend” preying on the insecurities to turn the man into a killing machine for his own amusement and gain of power
Jam says:
Did you see this Star Wars: Revelation movie that’s been kicking about the internet?
Sallie says:
I’ve heard of it but not seen it. Apparently George encourages them
Jam says:
It’s pretty good.
Sallie says:
we’re going to seek it out sometime this week I think.
Jam says:
Ok gotta go do the dinner thang!
Jam says:
Then the baseball/concert thang
Sallie says:
same here — except the baseball/concert
Jam says:
bye!
Sallie says:
have fun!! blog it!
