Blog stew — get it while it’s hot

A couple of things I felt like mentioning:

Power

I blogged this before but since I know it’s going to come up again now, let me just address it. Media of Erie: Do NOT tell me to turn up my air conditioner. I live in a house and I’m in it all day with my child. If anyone is draining power, look at the mall, the theaters and the restaurants in this town. which are kept so cold that one needs a sweater to go in. Funny how the transformers by the mall are always the ones that blow.

I say this b/c our power was out briefly late last night. As a result, we have low water pressure. Our water supply is Country Club Acres, not a municipal water supply, which is bullshit. If we have water problems, we’re supposed to call some guy’s house. Gak.

Anne Bancroft

The positive thing about Anne Bancroft’s passing is that everyone is running interviews with her. I’ve always been a fan of hers and it’s so much fun to see her in these interviews. Last night was a repeat of a 2000 episode of Charlie Rose. They got so giddy they were drunk. Favorite quote: “You know what magic is? Hard work.”

BTW: She was gorgeous. I loved the way her hair went gray in the front. Sexy. If I go gray or white, I hope mine does that.

Rosie O’Donnell

What glacier did she step out of? I admit, I used to enjoy watching her show and I enjoyed her. Then she became tiresome. Every photo I see of her she looks like she’s just sat on a tack — what’s up with that?

Roger Ebert put it best in his review of Exit To Eden when he wrote “Starting with Rosie O’Donnell. I’m sorry, but I just don’t get Rosie O’Donnell. I’ve seen her in three or four movies now, and she has generally had the same effect on me as fingernails on a blackboard. She’s harsh and abrupt and staccato and doesn’t seem to be having any fun. She looks mean.”

So anyway, now she’s showed up on “The View” (once in a while I watch the first 10 minutes) and then I saw her on some entertainment show (”Showbiz Tonight” on CNN, I think — I don’t usually watch that kind of thing) going on about how Michael Jackson learned his abusing behavior from his father and how he’s so disturbed and blah blah blah.

I cannot care about the opinion of anyone who belongs to this blog. I’ve seen blogs by 14 year old goth suburbanites that read like Sylvia Plath compared to that. I think it’s supposed to be poetry. I mean, she can write her blog any damn way she pleases and certainly doesn’t need my approval but I’m distressed to think that people believe it’s poetry. There’s a huge difference between poetry and writing single lines of meaningless, rhythmless, meterless drivel in all lowercase letters and using numbers and single letters in lieu of words.

Anyway, I’ve looked at her blog like three times in my life and never said anything about it here. I just thought if she was going to be spouting off her opinions left and right, I’d spout off mine. That blog sucks.

Although I will say that she holds her own on “The View” and was the most interesting person on the panel. Speaking of which:

The View

Barbara Walters recently denied that she said that seeing a breastfeeding woman (w/o a blanket or anything to give herself privacy) on a plane made her uncomfortable. She did say it. Now just own up and say “I said it.” So what if a breastfeeding woman makes you uncomfortable? It’s normal that seeing a titty whipped out in public makes a person uncomfortable, whether there’s a baby attatched or not.

Why did no one protest what Babs said earlier this week about Connie Chung? When Connie said she didn’t miss reporting and that she loved being a stay-at-home-mom to her 10 year old, Babs ended the interview with something like, “I hope you come back to television. Your talent is being wasted.” Oh yes she did. I was stunned.

Kelly Ripa

Can I just say that I love Kelly Ripa? She is a riot! She’s so snarky and funny and damn if she doesn’t look good in every kind of hat from a sombrero to a cheesehead.

Okay, enough female TV personalities for one day.
