My Perfect Post choice for the month of December was Venessa’s piece “Revisiting.” In it she talks frankly about money, about her desire to provide monetarily for her family as well as being a full-time stay-home mom (isn’t there a better term for that? aren’t most parents “full-time” parents?). She breaks down the various costs of living, weighs them against day care, considers the cost of child care if she worked outside the home, etc.
What moved me about the post was not just its subject matter but the passion with which Venessa expresses herself. I’ve only recently begun reading her blog and while I don’t agree 100% on everything she says, she has always been a very clear, focused writer with the kind of passion you don’t see often enough in personal weblogs, especially in “mommy blogger” blogs (I know there’s a better word for that, since none of the blogs I read by parents fall into the established parameters of “mommy blogs” and “daddy blogs”).
So often I find blogs that don’t take a stand on any issue and I don’t know anything about the writer. Venessa’s writing makes me feel, it makes me want to write and it makes me want to raise a glass in her direction. So, for December, I will.
