I just got my EW today & there are three blogworthy items:
#1 “The Riches” debuts tonight on FX. Stars Eddie Izzard & Minnie Driver. Nuff said.
#2 The “obsessive fan of the week” is a dude in Erie who loves The Shining. Mark Steensland: good on ya. I recommend a trip to The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. It inspired The Shining and is a pretty nice place. I’ve dined but not stayed there. Estes Park is a lovely little town, a gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Spend a few days exploring the park. Be sure to use the trails b/c as lovely as it is from one’s car, it’s amazing on foot. And have a breakfast at The Egg & I at least one morning
#3 Tawni O’Dell has a new book out: Sister Mine. EW gives it an A but I didn’t need to see that. I will buy everything she writes
upon release. In fact, now that I have something of hers to pick up once I finish it, I think I’ll finally read my hardback copy of Coal Run. By the time I finish, this new one should be in my hands. If not, I’ll just read Back Roads for the 27th time. Even Hawk loved Back Roads. If you haven’t read it, I can’t recommend it more. It’s set in the next county over & she captures the setting, including the people, the attitudes, etc. brilliantly. Back Roads inspired RFM, in case anyone cares.

#2 – If you go, remember that only the interior of the Overlook was shot there. The exterior is a hotel near Mt. Hood.

Oh I didn’t say that in EW the guy took a July 4 trip to the one in Oregon (from the Kubrick film). That’s why I recommended the Stanley for future trips. They have a thing Halloween wknd that’s popular. Anyway, I was too excited about mentioning #3 & I forgot to share what EW said about the Uberfan.

I wish I had FX, I *heart* Eddie Izzard, saw some previews today and it looks like a great show.

Just finished watching it. It was okay. There was a big WTF here @ Chez Piggyhawk that you have two Brit leads playing Southerners (I think). Not that the accents were bad but why couldn’t they have been Brits? Weird.
I hope it gets more interesting. And I’m also already sick of Grindhouse (all ads that weren’t house ads were ones touting Grindhouse).

Aww, I can’t believe I missed The Riches! I meant to watch it but had some company over. Oh well.
