Two unrelated things

Chowder and organization.

Okay, you can say their related in that they’re absolute visual pr0n that I’ve been salivating over this morning.

First up is Unclutterer, which is a blog about getting rid of junk and then making what’s left look organized and lovely. BTW: I still haven’t spent my $100 gift card from The Container Store. It’s on top of the microwave so I know where it is. Also, I walk by every now & then and daydream about the possibilities. Thing is, I need to redd up before I know what I need. Then I’ll blog more organizing photos b/c they amuse and delight me to now end. I can look back on them and say, “Ah, it used to look like that in here.”

Then Nat had to go and mention “chowdah crakahs” — chowder crackers. And I immediately thought of the first clam chowder I ever had. Hawk & I went to Boston in 2000 (I think it was) and we had the world’s best food everywhere we went. We’re not huge fans of seafood but I’d heard about Legal Seafoods so one afternoon we went to the aquarium and then to Legal Seafoods.

Oh. My. Om.

We had an appetizer of crab cakes. There is nothing in the world like a truly excellent crabcake. I had one once that gave me so much pleasure, I named it “Ewan.” These were better. Hawk had a salad, I think, but I had the chowder b/c I’d never had chowder before and where better than to try it for the first time than in Boston? I’ve never had better.Would I pay $50 for a gallon of this? Hellz yes.

I don’t remember what our main course was b/c I was so full of foodie bliss. I believe we both had whitefish. I don’t think we had room for dessert. But that meal was (secondary to one other aspect of our adventure which was not dependent on Boston itself) the highlight of our trip IMO. So if you’re landlocked and want some seafood, they ship. Try it. Mmm.

  • I guess I’m a weirdie cuz I prefer the Manhattan clam chowder. (I was too scared to say this at Nat’s!)

  • Cross over children. All are welcome. All welcome. Go into the Light. There is peace and serenity in the Light.

  • I’ve been to Boston twice. The first time, somewhere around 1997, it was during a road trip with two friends that covered at least six MA cities. In every single city, I had to try the claim chowder. The best was a place in or near Hyannisport on Cape Cod (I remember the city because that was when I kept joking that I wanted to go find the Kennedy Compound). I can’t remember the name of the restaurant, but it was very rustic looking inside. The chowdah was out of this world.

I had some from Legal Seafoods on my second trip with Al. At, of all places, Fenway Park.

  • Yeah and you can have Primanti Brothers at PNC Park.

  • Or you can just go to Steel City Sandwich Co. here in Erie and have a pretty good imitation Primanti. ;)

  • Awesome de-cluttering link. I’m looking for new ways to be weird.

I make a kick ass clam chowder, but I hate clams, so I make it sans clams and Glens adds those to his bowl. :)

  • I really, really want to like clam chowder. But the smell, it’s just got this smell…!

I like how it looks with the oyster crackers though, so maybe I’ll give it another chance.

  • I’ve found that the ones that taste best don’t have a clammy smell. If you have $20 to spare, send off for a quart of the Legal Seafoods one. If you don’t like that, you don’t like clam chowder ;)

  • Several things:
-You are SOOOOO close to the best crab cakes I have ever had:@ the Hyatt at PIT in the restaurant with balsamic vinegar reduction. GO NOW.
-Chowdah:… I like the white kind and I can’t help but think of the Simpsons when I say CHOWDAH!!!
-Legal Seafood… I think I remember Tex telling me that they had a dish called blackened sashimi… only it wasn’t spiced, it was cooked. Um…isn’t that just called cooked?
