I don’t know what to make of this. I’m on a “Top 100 Female Bloggers” list. I can’t tell from checking out the site if it’s just a blog that exists solely to make money or if it’s a legitimate thing. Some of the commenters I clicked on link to splogs (then again, you can’t help who comments). Maybe this will show up as a pingback there. I dunno. I’ve heard of many of these blogs though, including two by blogfriends named Jennifer who live in Buffalo.

What gives me pause is the inclusion on this list of blogs like #18 (Just Make Money Online), #67 (Blogger Bingo) and #74 (Adsense Tracker). The personal blogs I randomly clicked on are also ad-heavy. Like blinky, Google-y “make money blogging!!111!!” kind of ads. I don’t have any ads. I had to leave WordPress b/c I had a 1″ static ad for a few months, which… yeah. Whatever, WordPress. I’ve never been big on ads anyway but I thought a small, discreet ad that I could place anywhere and make extra dough to spend on Creative Wanderings products was fun. And it was. Plus I smell good.

Anyway, there’s no blogroll at that site. The only links are to “how to make money blogging” type sites. Then again, maybe it’s new and the links are building. Again, I have no idea. Also I don’t know/care about “PR” whatever that is, or Technorati or Alexa ratings. I don’t blog to be the popular kid.

Like I said, I don’t know what to make of this. If it is just a pleasant shout-out, it’s nice and I like it (and I am mentioning it after all). If it’s junk, oh well. It doesn’t harm me. The feeling I get is that it’s someone trying get a little recognition so he created the list and now he can bring in some money by blogging. Nothing wrong with that. And he did send an e-mail to the right address and it matches my URL. I like that he bothered with making such a list in the first place. Stuff like that takes time. Flattering bloggers is also a good idea ;) Especially when we start our online day by being snarked at by a “poet” who didn’t like his constructive critique. Sigh.

In any case, I’m going to check out some of the blogs on the list (not my close personal friend Michelle or Dooce though) and enjoy being on a nice list of fellow (female) bloggers. Life With Heathens sounds promising.

  • Hi There,
Thank you for blogging about this. I was actually the first to create a list at my old site and a week ago I moved to a new domain therefore the newer and bigger list. I have been blogging for over a year and my blog is mainly about blog tips. Once again, I am legitimate, and this isn’t one of those make money schemes but just a way to give back to female bloggers who have gone unnoticed in the many blogger lists out there. Thanks again! - Enkay

  • A lot of these lists are no more than linkbait. They do it to get lots of links, which is a way of gaming PageRank and going for the big ad bucks. It’s the oldest game in the book. This one might be doing it for other reasons, but it’s the same process.

  • That was the word I couldn’t think of ;) Thanks

  • Well, whatever it is, you rock!

  • Hello, well thank you for thinking my blog sounds promising. :) I’m glad you linked to me because it led me to your blog and the first thing I saw was the word “bumblefuck” in Tags. I was like “yeah, my kind of blogger!”. LOL.

I’m not big on Alexarank, Technorati rank, or PR crap these days. I like that only people who enjoy reading my blog visit me and not those who care about ratings. I blog for me and to make my readers laugh when I can. That’s the fun part and once you lose the fun…blah…why the hell bother? :)

  • Come for the heathenry, stay for the Bumblefuck! :)

  • Well, you could always not give them money and just leave the link in this one post only so it still drives some hits to your site. Can’t hurt to glean a little traffic from it.

The second they ask for money, run! ;-)

  • That’ll be interesting if they do. Or if they want to place an ad or something. On that front, I have to say “Can’t. WordPress.”
