A weekend in Pittsburgh

Ah, Pittsburgh.

So far I have seen the inside of a hotel, a few streets in Oakland and entirely too much of this hospital. I’m in the ICU family waiting room right now. The hospital provides wireless access and I was wise enough to bring the laptop. There is a computer in the room but it’s “slow as molasses in January” as I told S earlier. So I’ve sent a few e-mails to update people. I thought since I could, I would write up a little something.

I don’t want to compromise Hawk’s privacy (hence the pw-protected entries) but I do want to do a public update.

Short version is that he has an infected liver. They’re fixing it and b/c of the level of care he requires, he’s in the ICU. If the current solution continues to work, he could be finished with that treatment in 4-5 days, on IV antibiotics for 4-6 weeks and oral antibiotics for up to 6 months.

But he’s here and he’s healing and for the first time in his life he’s optimistic.

He also told me today that he thinks they’re trying to turn him into Darth Vader.
