It ain’t cool being no jive turkey so close to Thanksgiving

I went to the grocery store with Zoe this morning & it was practically empty. Note to self: grocery shopping after Thanksgiving = awesome.

Then we went to Target b/c they were having a Hamilton Beach toaster for $15 (regular retail $30) and it was in-store-only. And there was no crowd at Target! I mean, there was a regular Saturday crowd but by the time we left, cars were parked well beyond ours. And I got my toaster. “Black Friday” shopping on Saturday = no crowds, but same deals. Yay!

Kids played outside, sledding & such, this afternoon. Zoe decided that eating icicles is as much fun as eating snow.

The kids’ new favorite movie is Trading Places. We watched it on TV the other day & they were laughing. So we held back to see if they’d quit laughing. No chance. They were falling out of their chairs during the train scene. Now we just say, “Beef jahky?” and they laugh.

Tonight’s holiday dance segment was kick-started by “I Have a Little Dreidel” (Barenaked Ladies):

Tonight's holiday dance brought to you by "I Have a Little Dreidel" by Barenaked Ladies

I’m putting our Xmas music on the iTunes. I can’t find the CD for Rudolph but I have the case. Naturally Zoe’s crazy for Rudolph now. She makes me explain to her why Santa & Donner are such pricks. Well that’s not her term but it’s the sentiment. anyway, if you have any suggestions for your fave Christmas or other holiday music, feel free to comment. I’m looking for suggestions. We usually get a new album a year.

Hawk’s feeling much better. Tonight was his 20th high school reunion. We were naturally disappointed that we couldn’t go but S will report the “trainwreckiness” of the event for us. And most of the people we’d be talking to know why we weren’t going. Hawk’s theory is that he got sick b/c he’d just written the check for the reunion reservation.

Hawk’s PICC line is kind of odd. The weight of it is kind of loosening the dressing, which won’t be changed until Monday. So he’s walking around with his arm slightly up. He says, “You know who I remind me of? Otter.” All he needed was a laurel wreath and a toga & the image would have been complete.

Slight disagreement between Zoe & Holden tonight involved the following declaration from me: “First we’ll watch Iron Man, then Hulk. Is that okay?” It was. And now that I’ve seen Wall-E approximately 27 times, I can say that Ratatouille is still m fave Pixar movie. Zoe’s is Wall-E, Holden’s is Cars & Hawk’s is The Incredibles. What’s yours?

I think that’s all the little stuff I have right now. I’m sure I’ll come up with something right after I post this.

  • Disney: I’m a Belle girl. Give me Beauty and the Beast every time.

Christmas Music: I’m a classics kind of girl, but I love our “A Charlie Brown Christmas” album. It’s very nice, all musical and no words, and it really is a fabulous background to guests.

(By classics I mean I like to get the albums with Bing, Sinatra, Cole, Garland.)

  • Oh, I love Wall-E! I just saw it the other night. We bought the DVD to watch with the kids. The Incredibles is a close second too. :D

  • Pretty much the entire Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack (the film is great too!)

My current Christmas folder contains songs such as:

Bon Jovi – Bells Will Be Ringing (or at least that’s what it’s labeled I’m fairly certain it’s called something else)

    Christmas Vacation – Mavis Staples

David Bowie & Bing Crosby – Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy

Dean Martin – Baby It’s Cold Outside

John Lennon – Happy Xmas/War Is Over

Kathy Mattea – Mary Did You Know?

    The Kinks – Father Christmas

    Paul McCartney – Wonderful Christmastime

    Squeeze – Christmas Day

Tran-Siberian Orchestra – Christmas Eve Sarajevo

South Park – I’m A Jew On Christmas

The Carpenters – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Elmo & Patsy – Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

Greg Lake – I Believe In Father Christmas

Ray Charles – That Spirit of Christmas

  • Disney Pick- old school ~Bambi More recent~Ratatouille. Though Cars is a close second. Cannot wait for my grandsons visit at the end of December they always bring their latest new DVDs with them for viewing! Yay!
Christmas songs~ I gotta give it some more thought…
    : )
Happy to hear that you’re all doing better!

  • Santa and Donner = Pricks. So funny I spit out my juice. Love it.

  • I loved this:
“Hawk’s theory is that he got sick b/c he’d just written the check for the reunion reservation.”

I’d have to check to see which cartoon movies I like are thanks to Pixar in order to choose a favorite.

We just listened to Christmas music last night while we put the final coat of paint on the dining room. The whole Wal*Mart fiasco had me in such a foul holiday mood, I think Al was trying to see if he could salvage something.

  • Your Pixar choices are thus:

    Toy Story
    A Bug’s Life
    Toy Story 2
    Monsters Inc.
    Finding Nemo
    The Incredibles
    Cars
    Ratatouille
    Wall-E

  • I caint reads. (Monsters Inc.)

  • Songs: little saint nick and santa baby – falalalalalalalala :)

  • Oh don’t worry — we have a whole Beach boys Xmas album.

  • I haven’t seen all of them, but from the ones I have seen, my choice is Monsters, Inc.

  • James Brown – Funked up Christmas – Smacks of desperate marketing ploy, but so tacky it’s cool. It’s also apparently “…guaranteed to give Santa Claus himself a soul transfusion!” Yeah baby!

Also, my all time favorite Christmas song is the Pogues ‘Fairytale of New York’. Probably not one for the children though.

  • Fave Christmas song:
    Just Like Christmas by Low.

Pixar flick: I’m still in love with Toy Story. Perfect voicing and great story. I do love all of the Pixar films, though, and all of their creative stories. I’ve only seen Wall-E twice, though, and have some catching up to do with your kiddos!
